Primary School Assistant (2026–27)
Casa de las Estrellas is seeking a full-time Primary School Assistant to support our team of teachers, grades 1 to 6. The ideal candidate brings warmth, flexibility, and presence, and is committed to nurturing children's development through collaborative work, consistent routines, and meaningful support in the classroom and beyond.
This position plays a key role in maintaining the rhythm of the school day, assisting in lessons and transitions, and supporting student well-being while upholding the principles of Waldorf pedagogy and the Costa Rican Ministry of Public Education (MEP) curriculum.
About the Role
The Primary School Assistant will collaborate with lead teachers to support student learning and classroom functioning, providing help with daily routines, transitions, creative activities, and outdoor play.
The assistant offers individualized attention when needed, helps uphold class agreements, and contributes to the caring social environment that defines our school.
This role also includes accompanying festivals, meetings, and special events, supporting the school’s rhythm and culture throughout the year.
We are looking for a teacher who brings:
Has experience working with children in educational settings
Holds a degree in education or a related field (preferred)
Is fluent in both Spanish and English
Works collaboratively with initiative, flexibility, and responsibility
Has a warm, confident presence and the ability to hold boundaries lovingly
Enjoys assisting with classroom activities, materials, and maintaining order and rhythm
Is familiar with or eager to learn about Waldorf education
Is able to observe, listen, and respond with empathy and clarity
Core Responsibilities
HoldSupport lead teachers in classroom routines, creative activities, transitions, and supervision
Prepare and organize materials for class substitutions based on the lead teacher’s plans.
Work with individual students or small groups under teacher guidance
Supervise students during recess, lunch, transitions, and school outings
Maintain a clean, safe, respectful, and beautiful learning environment
Participate in team meetings, professional development, school events, and festivals
Support children with diverse learning needs, as directed by the pedagogical team
Assist in the implementation of class and school agreements with clarity and consistency
